Centering profound autism. Honoring caregiver expertise.

Hey! I'm Sarah

I’m Sarah Kernion - writer, speaker, podcast host - and mother to two children with profound, nonspeaking autism.

I created INCHSTONES because too much of the autism conversation leaves out the families living the most intensive realities. It leaves out the caregivers who become advocates, interpreters, coordinators, protectors, and expert system navigators while carrying an emotional and physical load that often goes unseen.

INCHSTONES exists to make that life more visible, more understood, and less lonely.

the power of neurodiversity

Every child, no matter how they communicate, is whole, worthy, and deserving of joy, respect, and possibility.

The lived experience of mothers and caregivers is real expertise.
Profound autism belongs at the center of the conversation, not at the edges.

And the smallest moments of connection, trust, expression, and growth, the INCHSTONES, are sacred.

Through speaking, writing, podcasting, and coaching, I help families and communities:

  • Understand profound autism with more honesty and depth
  • Recognize communication beyond speech
  • Move toward radical acceptance
  • Navigate systems with more clarity
  • Treat caregiver wellbeing as essential, not optional

OFFERINGS

My work is rooted in lived experience and shaped by the realities of profound, nonspeaking autism.

I speak and write about what too often gets flattened or left out entirely: communication beyond speech, invisible caregiver labor, system strain, dignity, love, exhaustion, and the inch-by-inch progress that outsiders often miss.

WORK WITH ME

"Sarah resonates"

“Sarah hosted a session around raising children with autism in partnership with our Families Employee Resource group and she was incredible! Her vulnerability, optimism, energy and honesty in sharing her story helped our entire family's community stop and celebrate the 'inchstones'! The audience was so engaged and shared messages of love, tears, and she helped to create an environment where others were comfortable in sharing their stories and building community. Sarah's mission to help others through sharing her experience truly resonated with our family's community and are so grateful we had the opportunity to learn from her.”
