INCHSTONES exists because too much of the autism conversation leaves out families living the most intensive realities. Here, profound autism belongs at the center. Communication is understood as bigger than speech. And every child is seen as whole, worthy, and capable of connection.
Through honest conversations, advocacy, and lived experience, INCHSTONES helps families navigating profound autism feel more seen, supported, and less alone. Because meaningful growth is not always measured in milestones. Sometimes, it is measured in inchstones.
Every child, no matter how they communicate, is whole, worthy, and deserving of joy, respect, and possibility.
The lived experience of mothers and caregivers is real expertise.
Profound autism belongs at the center of the conversation, not at the edges.
And the smallest moments of connection, trust, expression, and growth, the INCHSTONES, are sacred.
My work is rooted in lived experience and shaped by the realities of profound, nonspeaking autism.
I speak and write about what too often gets flattened or left out entirely: communication beyond speech, invisible caregiver labor, system strain, dignity, love, exhaustion, and the inch-by-inch progress that outsiders often miss.
“Sarah hosted a session around raising children with autism in partnership with our Families Employee Resource group and she was incredible! Her vulnerability, optimism, energy and honesty in sharing her story helped our entire family's community stop and celebrate the 'inchstones'! The audience was so engaged and shared messages of love, tears, and she helped to create an environment where others were comfortable in sharing their stories and building community. Sarah's mission to help others through sharing her experience truly resonated with our family's community and are so grateful we had the opportunity to learn from her.”
